Hello!

I’m Sarah Mac. I’m a writer, mom, runner. This is my original running blog, Running Starfish, started in 2009 to chronicle my first (and supposed to be last) marathon, all the way through qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Trials Marathon.

STAYING ALIVE

STAYING ALIVE

Did you come here for motivation? How to run a marathon PR after your first baby? Sorry, the old Mac can't come to the phone right now...because she's dead. Or trying not to die.

I've been dealing with a cold / plague and am currently at the stage where I'm in an old fashioned movie and have to cough into a handkerchief and you know it's not going well. Who knows what's in that handkerchief?! So far at least it's not blood? *shrugs*

My mileage has been particularly impressive, I've run nearly 20 miles in the past 30 days. That includes 4 in the last ...20 days. Total. I know, I know. You want to know my secret. Listen, it's like I scream in all caps on Instagram, "WHEN YOU WANT TO TAKE A DAY OFF TO COUGH INTO YOUR OLD-TIMEY BLOOD HANDKERCHIEF, THINK ABOUT YOUR GOALS AND KEEP GOING!! #neverregretaworkout #pushharder #bloodhandkerchief #gross" Oh wait, wrong account.

Anyway, I'm on day 7 of antibiotics and still can't smell anything but can kind of breathe so, like the many times before, it looks like I'm going to live. And I'm very excited to get back to my regularly scheduled sanity running.

Side note: DUH my most inspired run in the past 30 days was after The Shalane Marathon, I mean New York City Marathon. I stopped crying only long enough to jog 2 miles at the Y, then lay on the ground in the weight room trying to look like I was doing ab work.
